The Art of Self-Care

Over the years as a counselor and self-help writer, I have become acutely aware of something: people generally misunderstand self-care.

When I say the word “self-care,” what comes to mind?

Most people think of bubble baths and facemasks. And while that forms part of self-care rituals and people walk around looking ultra-beautiful, it is not the be-all and end-all of the self-care concept. Self-care is so much more than that.

There are only so many bubble baths and foot scrubs you can indulge in before you have to say enough is enough, flee the bathtub, and find alternative ways to practice self-care.

If you’re tired of a life of wrinkled toes and extra smooth skin (although those things can be nice things, too), I would like to challenge you to try self-care in a different way.

The various forms of self-care (I believe there are 8) form what I like to call “The Art of Self-Care.” When you learn to combine these different forms of self-care, you really benefit in an entirely different way from sinking into a bubble-filled bathtub — trust me on that.
